Maintenance Technician - Lost Creek ISR Facility

Position Summary

This entry-level position is responsible for performing diverse duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment. This position is distinguished within the Maintenance Technician group by the performance of more routine tasks and duties and in assisting higher-level onsite staff in performing the more complex and difficult tasks. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment. Because this position is an entry-level classification, employees may have limited or no directly related work experience. Employees work under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, and with direction from other more experienced staff members while learning job tasks.

  • Perform basic duties to install and maintain production plant equipment.
  • Under supervision, provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of equipment and perform scheduled maintenance or repairs of equipment during machine service.
  • Perform basic mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production equipment.
  • Perform maintenance activities on and in tanks and vessels related to piping, coatings and mechanical integrity.
  • Review and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Under supervision, diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments to equipment.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, vehicles (tires, oil, filters, spark plugs, brakes, etc.), equipment and plant facilities.
  • Perform a variety of basic plumbing maintenance functions.
  • Detect faulty operations, equipment and material. Report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Visually and manually inspects wellfield mechanical equipment.
  • Remove and replace submersible well pumps and motors. Remove and or repair all wellhead related equipment, meters, valves, transmitters, fittings, and plumbing.
  • Operate various instruments and related equipment to attain required wellfield data.
  • Operate various hand-held tools, power tools, and air tools in the repair and maintenance of wellfield systems.
  • May operate heavy equipment and machinery depending on the assignment; for example, all-terrain forklift, front-end loader, backhoe, pulling unit, and hose reel.
  • Perform mechanical integrity tests (MIT) on new and existing wells using specialized equipment (MIT truck).
  • Maintain supplies needed to complete related tasks; for example, tool inventory, equipment, and machinery applicable to assignment.
  • Perform and record maintenance duties, compile all required data to assist in permit compliance.
  • Adhere to established schedules/guidelines for preventative maintenance and repair, safety policy, and procedure; maintain professionalism and quality control.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean work areas.
  • Regular attendance.
  • May be asked to perform tasks outside of this department on occasion when and where necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educations And Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Valid driver's license with insurable driving record.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to prepare and respond to instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a wide range of people, and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to operate pumps manually or via DCS to transfer fluids / chemicals within plant systems.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with all co-workers, and management, and various agency personnel.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Understanding of pump operation, fluid flow systems and piping.

Safety Practices And Policy

The employee must be knowledgeable about and follow the Company's safety policies and procedures. The employee must also be certified and available to wear a respirator (i.e., must be successfully respirator fit tested).

Schedule

This is a shift operating position requiring both day and night shifts, working 12 hours on for four days, then four days off (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., or as may be adju ted for shift-change handover)

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be mobile (walking, standing); to use hands for various tasks; to see and hear adequately to perform all essential functions and maintain a safe work environment. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to routine industrial hazards which may include fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. There is the potential that the employee will be exposed to low-level radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
