Overview:
In Canada, Ur-Energy is focusing on discovery of an “unconformity” uranium deposit, a unique and relatively rare ore deposit type that is found in a very restrictive geological environment. Compared to other deposit types for uranium mineralization, the unconformity uranium deposits are of extremely high-grade and when discovered have insitu values that rival any other mineral deposit type.
Since the late 1960s the Western World's exploration focus shifted to exploring basement rocks beneath Proterozoic sedimentary basins. These deposits, first recognized and discovered in Australia, were followed by discoveries found in Saskatchewan under the Athabasca Basin and later in the Thelon Basin in the eastern Arctic. Since the early surface discoveries, the model for formation of these orebodies evolved considerably to the point where discoveries have been recently made of blind deposits found in excess of 700 metres below surface.
Ur-Energy holds exploration properties in the Thelon Basin and announced in April, 2006 that it farmed out its Hornby Bay Properties in the Hornby Bay Proterozic Basin to Triex Minerals Corporation. The link to the slide show (under presentations) entitled Canada Uranium Projects, illustrates the discovery potential on the Thelon Projects.
